Books By Mail is a free service provided by LOPL that delivers books and audiobooks on CD through the US Postal Service to eligible, homebound residents in Chatham and Liberty counties. This service is available to individuals who are temporarily or permanently unable to visit the library due to a physical disability, long-term illness, or lack of transportation.

Designated staff will conduct a phone interview to determine eligibility and complete a PINES library account application. 

Standard checkout period is for 30 days with 1 renewal. Checkout time includes time spent in the mail.

Customers may have up to 50 items checked out at a time. Holds are limited to 15 items.

Books by Mail is free to qualifying residents in Chatham and Liberty counties. Customers are not billed overdue fines, but will be charged for lost, damaged, or long overdue items.

The USPS service has proven quite reliable. However, if an item is lost in the mail, your Books by Mail Library staff member will work with you to resolve the issue.

Staff send items in secured USPS mail bags. Items include a return mailing slip for the customer to send the items back with their mail carrier.
